Well another day goes by and my bandaged finger gets a little better. Throwing a cast net, and casting for that matter has never been so hard. I am greatly enjoying these days back that i left open for some personal fishing time to get back into the swing of things. The beaches are VERY crowded…..with tarpon that is.
Headed out this morning and found some nice threadfins and big horse pilchards right off the bat. Filled the well and only had to go about 20 feet before i found a nice pod of 60-100lb fish. No takers on the first pass, but only yards behind was another nice pod of fish. I tossed both baits, crabs, and even a pinfish at them and had no takers. Finally the ladyfish got the nod and I was tied into a nice 80 lb silver king. I made short work of her, and hooked another almost immediately. The next one was about the same size, maybe running about 90lbs. I had my fill as the sun got a little higher, but I left the beach full of tarpon to catch another day.
headed in on my way to fuel and clean the boat for tomorrows trip and stopped off near stump pass to catch about a dozen snook in a little over an hour. It was almost like snapper fishing, they were just hanging out about 10-15 feet behind the boat and would ambush every bait i dropped back.
Headed home early to make lunch and get ready for tomorrow. Busted finger and all I managed 2 tarpon to about 90lbs, 10-12 snook up to about 28″, and i was back at 11:50. I have a couple guys coming into town tomorrow that are self described “snookaholics” so we will probably put up huge numbers tomorrow. I should be able to get some good pics finally as well.
Take care until then,
Capt. Tom
